Made using the traditional round-roof method: a quality that approaches that of handmade paper. The slow rotation of the cylinder allows for the even arrangement of the fibers and their distribution in all directions across the paper. The fibers are distributed homogeneously, and the paper relaxes uniformly when wet, giving the artist greater control. This process allows for the production of high-grammage papers with exceptional resistance to scratching and erasing, as the fibers are gelatinized throughout the paper. Only round-roof manufacturing allows for papers with deckle edges.

Its 100% cotton composition, long fibers, gives the paper its beauty, a permanent natural whiteness, an inimitable touch and guarantees its resistance.

An exclusive ARCHES® feature: the gelatin core preserves the brilliance and transparency of the colors, preventing pigments from migrating through the paper's thickness. It allows for layering of washes and enhances resistance to erasing and scraping, without tearing or shedding lint. It also allows for pigment removal, working wet or dry, and easily restoring the paper's whiteness. ARCHES® Aquarelle can absorb a lot of water, but its warping is limited.

Texture

3 grains: fine grain, satin grain, and coarse grain. ARCHES® Aquarelle features a natural and harmonious grain. The choice of texture depends on the medium used by the artist. But as a general rule, texture is a personal choice for the artist, forming part of the creative process and artistic expression.

Special formulation

Mass-sized with natural gelatin: an ARCHES® exclusive. ARCHES® is the only paper mill in the world that uses mass gelatinization in its watercolor paper. Even when wet for extended periods, the paper retains a sufficient amount of gelatin and does not become overly absorbent.

Conservation

Preventive fungicidal treatment against mold growth. With alkaline reserve, acid-free, and free of optical brighteners (permanent according to ISO 9706).
